Memories and Wine        Jim Ryan, 1982

I must thank you for listening
To what I have to say
Though the stare in your eyes
Is many miles away
But you asked what keeps me
Right here all this time
It’s a sad combination
Of memories and wine

The memory was sweet
I know you’ve felt it too
Life lost its flavour
When she said we were through
Though I’ve tried more than once
To tell it all in a line
It’s a sad combination
Of memories and wine

Now the wine takes her place
I know you guessed that it would
When memories are bad
That wine sure tastes good
Now I can’t lay the blame
For a misguided mind
It’s just a sad combination
Of memories and wine
